Pacific Theatre Seeks General Manager

First Pacific Theatre Society invites submissions by qualified candidates for the position of General Manager.  The position is full time/permanent (less than full time may be negotiable) and commences in September of 2008.

Pacific Theatre is a professional theatre based in Vancouver, British Columbia.  An affiliate member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, a member of the Alliance for Arts & Culture, and a member of the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, Pacific Theatre was founded in Vancouver in 1984 with the mandate to produce and present theatre that explores the spiritual aspects of human experience.  We strive to operate with artistic, spiritual, relational and financial integrity.  Pacific Theatre has a growing emphasis on emerging artists, which is facilitated by a vibrant apprenticeship program.  The theatre produces five mainstage plays per season and operates in a fast-paced, open office environment.  Pacific Theatre is a registered charitable society.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The General Manager will work with a staff of four (two full time plus two part time) plus apprentices to fulfill the company’s mandate.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Financial Management: ensuring effective financial control, preparing and managing operating and production budgets, reporting, liaising with the company’s Board of Directors, and possible accounting.
  • Development Management: managing donor information and contact history; implementing fundraising strategies; preparing applications and reports to Government and foundation funding agencies; planning donor events; managing and developing corporate sponsorships; maintaining good relations with the above.
  • Marketing Management: creating and implementing new marketing strategies; working with the staff publicist to effectively represent the company to the public, media, and performing arts industry.
  • Human Resources: negotiating employment contracts with staff and managing organizational behaviour.
  • Growth Management: implementing growth initiatives including the organic growth of our apprenticeship and training programs, the intentional growth of our subscription base, and managed growth of earned and unearned revenue.
  • General Operations Management: liaising with Vancouver’s theatre community through Pacific Theatre’s membership in GVPTA, Alliance for Arts, and affiliation with PACT; liaising effectively with the Board of Directors.

CANDIDATE
Pacific Theatre is looking for a confident, creative initiator with demonstrated business, strategic leadership, communication, and management skills who is knowledgeable about theatre and is committed to our mandate. The successful candidate will have a Business Degree or relevant post-secondary training with a minimum of two years of professional experience. Arts Administration or non-profit background is an asset.  Preference will be given to candidates with strong marketing, development, organizational, and decision-making skills.  Experience in grant-writing and financial management is necessary.

SALARY
Salary to be negotiated based on experience.
